There are about 25,000 Uzko (Dark Trolls) and 2,000 non-trolls on and in the Shadow Plateau. They are organised in extended families or bloodlines, which, with the exception of one bloodline, all claim to have the Allmother as an ancestor and as such also Ezkankekko and Argan Argar Himself. There are a few dozens of families in a bloodline and a hundred trolls in one family. No one knows the number of Enlo (trollkins), wild or tame, but human Lhankor Mhy worshippers estimate there are 100,000 of these miserable creatures. Except for a small hundred of Babeester Gor worshippers in Axe Hall and a few hundreds of Voralans in the mushrooms forests, the majority of non-trolls are part of the Kitori tribe, whose members look neither Uz nor human and both at the same time. The Kitori are officially part of Heortland and live mostly in the Troll Woods, in the foothills of the Stormwalk Mountains, on the other side of the Marzeel river.

The Allmother:

All permanent inhabitants owe allegiance to the Allmother, an Uzuz (Mistress Race) living in the deepest caves of the Shadow Plateau, the daughter of Ezkankekko the Only Old One and as such the grand-daughter of Argan Argar. It is said that the Allmother was born in Wonderhome when everything was still perfect and guided the Uz through the Exoduz to the Surface during the Hurtful Times. She is immortal and time has no effect on her. She's exceptional for an Uz leader, as she is both the representative of Kyger Litor the Uz Mother and the Voice of Argan Argar the Dark Walker. This twofold ancestry is highly symbolic of the life in the Shadow Plateau. The influence of this two deities gives her a mystical aura among the Uz. Every Uz are shown to her a few days after their birth, during the adulthood rites and after their death, when they come back in Kyger Litor's sweet embrace. The life in the Plateau is intimately linked to the Allmother and no one would think about disobeying or displeasing her.

The Great Ones:

The females leading the families and bloodlines are called Great Ones. They are the unequal leaders of their communities, the other females (and of course, the males and Enlo) all bow down before their power and listen to what they say. The families heads in turn obey the bloodlines leaders, who all obey the Allmother, the Greatest Great One. Some say it was always that way, even during the Kingdom of Night. The Only Old One being only a figurehead used to talk to stupid and dangerous strangers. His death did not change much.
Inside a family, many different things can help an ambitious female to become a Great One. In all cases, her number of live children (Uzko, of course, and preferably females), her power in magic, her place inside the Kyger Litor hierarchy, the number of females and males already obeying her and the number of husbands are all important. Some families also look upon the number of insects possessed, or the number of Enlos, or the wisdom in Surface Secrets (all this proving the influence Argan Argar and Komor had on the Uz of the Shadow Plateau).
A Great One is not a Great One for life! Accidents, bad deals while trading with strangers or other families, defeat in the daily power struggles, angry ancestors, bad year for the crops or the herds, all these things can put down a Great One and help choose a new one. Some families (particularly among the Klag and Bazdorf bloodlines) kill the Great Ones (or make them kill themselves) and then devour them for their wisdom to be given to all, while other families let them become normal females again, ready to become Great once more, if the occasion arises. Of course, as, when one is a Great One, one has access to the best food, the best magic, the greatest blessings of fertility and the best mates, the place is always coveted.
