Orlanthi of Volsaxiland in Heortland mark their fields borders with stones, as their Sartar cousins do. Moving these stones is a good way to gain more land and a good feud with the neighbouring clan.

Aeolian nobles in Heortland built manors everywhere in the southern regions, on their lands. Here is a typical example, the little castle of a low baron or maybe a rich sheriff or bailiff in the Karhend earldom.

When Belintar the Stranger killed the Lead Serpent, the immense body of the beast crashed on the north-east of the Shadow Plateau, forming the Lead Hills and blocking the path of the Creek-Stream River. Nowadays, the ancient valley of the river has been taken by the Marzeel and some little rivulets. Most of the valley is now dry all year long, and Volsaxi sheeps graze where the powerful waters flowed in the ancient days.

As in Esrolia, in some distant places in Heortland, old sacred stones can be found. This one is the entrance of a tomb. The clan on which lands the stones stand brings offering there in Storm Season and in Ancestors Day. They hope to calm the angry ghosts haunting the place, to prevent them from coming among the living.

Heortland ends in the west with high cliffs. Some days in Dark Season, when Elmal is weak and the Darkness encroaching, the atmosphere can be quite gloomy. One of the watchtowers which defend the coast can be seen lighting the way for passing ships.

When the Rokari mercenary Rikar the Tigerhearted conquered a part of Heortland in 1618-1619, he established the ephemeral kingdom of Malkonwal, burning Aeolian churches as he went and trying to put the Rokari faith in its place. Here can be seen the remnants of an Aeolian church in the green pastures of Esvular earldom.
